The GOTS is recognized as the most important standards for sustainable production of garments and textiles made from natural fibers from organic farming as organic cotton or organic wool. The Standard was developed by leading international organizations in organic agriculture in order to guarantee the consumer that organic textile products are obtained in compliance with stringent environmental and social criteria applied at all levels of production.

To obtain GOTS certification, a company must satisfy the following requirements:

• use only natural organic or recycled textile fibres;
• ensure respect for workers' rights, including decent wages, reasonable working hours and safe and healthy working conditions;
• use only safe and non-toxic chemicals during the production process;
• implement responsible environmental management practices, including sustainable water and energy use and waste and emissions minimisation;
• Comply with local and international social and environmental standards.
